Visian ICL

Dr. Mark Lobanoff is one of the most experienced Visian ICL surgeons in Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota.  The Visian ICL is a lens technology that allows for the correction of myopia or nearsightedness.  Many patients who were told they cannot have LASIK surgery due to a thin cornea, an extemely high myopic correction, or due to a corneal dystrophy called keratoconus can now successfully have their vision permanently corrected through the use of the Visian ICL.  ICL stands for intraocular collamer lens.  Collamer is a new flexible clear material from which the lens is made.  Many people simply call the ICL an intraocular contact lens.  The surgery is painless and takes only 10 minutes.

One to two weeks before the Visian ICL eye surgery Dr. Lobanoff will perform a YAG laser iridotomy.  During this procedure, a YAG laser is used to create two small openings near the edge of your iris, which is the colored part of your eye.  These openings serve as outlets that will allow the fluid in your eye to circulate around the lens.  Prior to creating the small openings in the eye with the laser, the doctor will apply numbing drops to make the procedure more comfortable.  The ophthalmologist will then prescribe eye drops for you to use during the weeks leading up to the Visian ICL procedure.
