Specialty Intraocular Lenses
During cataract surgery the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artifical lens, known as an intraocular lens. In the past, surgeons were limited to using lenses that corrected for only one focal point. Either an eye could be made to see clearly at distance or it could be made to see clearly at near, but not both. Today, there are new intraocular lenses available to allow patients to focus at near, intermediate, and far. These are known as presbyopia correcting lenses. There are three such lenses currently available: ReZoom, ReStor, and Crystalens. Each lens has its own unique advantages and disadvantages.
